Ideas to be covered include: Using Python and Scratch coding for measurement, angles and coordinate geometry, the four processes, their place and how they underpin the core of mathematics and problem solving; linear relationships, number (explored in many ways), measurement, using Tarzia for introducing, during and following a topic, and so many more. A full description of the series is in development!

Dates are: Feb 9, March 16, May 4, June 1

Pricing is 4 sessions for the price of 3:

    New Desiree Gilbert Workshop:

Where to now? Using assessment for and as teaching in the early years mathematics classroom

“In classrooms, formative assessment refers to frequent, interactive assessments of student progress and understanding to identify learning needs and adjust teaching appropriately.” It “… promotes higher levels of student achievement … and improved learning to learn skills” (OECD/CERI International Conference, 2018)

The workshop will focus on using formative assessment to assess student understanding, knowledge and skills and plan next steps in their learning. Elements of effective task design will be embedded into this workshop as we explore ways to gather evidence of student learning, provide feedback and design learning and teaching lesson sequences in mathematics.

This workshop is designed for teachers of early years students (F-3).

Saturday Jun 15th 9am-12noon - morning tea provided

    Measurement: Building conceptual understanding (F-2)

Building a conceptual understanding of measurement and using hands-on and engaging learning experiences to enhance and differentiate learning will be the focus for this workshop.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in:

    • The Australian Curriculum: Mathematics and explore concepts of measurement
    • Focussed learning experiences to develop understanding in measurement
    • Exploring learning experiences that focus on the purpose, attributes and the tools of measurement.
    • Learning experiences that are differentiated, hands-on and focus on developing understanding and fluency, problem solving and reasoning
    • Strategies for reflection
